Selling our boutique commercial subcontracting company led me to think about my next steps.  As I pondered this question, I was reminded of The Alchemist, by Paul Coehlo, which I had read many years earlier about a shepherd who traveled great distances and followed many signs to find his personal destiny.  I was at a crossroads where I could pick many paths, but where were the signs pointing me? 

I had the luxury of having many choices but I was directly asked about bringing my HR expertise to other companies.  Those little signs kept popping up in my conversations with clients, vendors, friends and family.  There were other signs that pointed towards a corporate job, or other less applicable positions, but more and more signs pointed towards sharing my HR experiences as a consultant. 
Should I follow those signs and if I didn’t--would I reach my personal destiny?  The signs pointing me in the direction of creating Alchemy HR Group Inc. started very early on in my days as a Hillsdale College Ambassador, recruiting high school students by giving tours, hosting overnights and conducting college fairs.  After school, those signs pointed me into the staffing world where I honed my sourcing, recruiting and interviewing skills. 

These skills dovetailed perfectly into an entrepreneurial venture with my husband and his construction knowledge.  We grew the company from scratch to approximately 150 team members. We were regularly recognized for the scalability to take on large projects and for our team mentality, and our collaborative approach.  We recognized that we were an HR company with expertise in construction, not a construction company with an HR department.  This differentiated us greatly from our competitors and allowed us to continuously grow our market share.  The lessons I learned in leading this company accelerated my knowledge in the Employee Relations, Benefits, Compensation, and Leadership areas.  After almost 10 years of business, we sold the company to three employees.

So all of these experiences were the signs pointing me in the direction of Alchemy HR Group where I can share this hard-earned knowledge with other companies and entrepreneurs.   This is my personal destiny.
